Marty Schoondermark: a connecting link within SAF-HOLLAND Benelux for 20 years
With almost two decades of experience, Marty Schoondermark is a familiar face within SAF-HOLLAND Benelux. As Key Account Manager Aftermarket, he maintains customer relations in the Netherlands and provides solutions that perfectly meet the needs of the transport sector. But what drives him, and how does he see the future of the sector? We spoke to Marty about his work and his vision for SAF-HOLLAND.

From wholesale to SAF-HOLLAND
Marty's career at SAF-HOLLAND began in 2004, when he was approached from a wholesaler to join the team. Then still under the company name SAF Benelux. ‘What immediately appealed to me was the combination of technology, customer contact, and the versatility of the work,’ he explains. ‘Every day brings new challenges, and it is precisely this variety that makes the work so interesting.’
As Key Account Manager Aftermarket, Marty deals with the sale of parts, including the well-known SAF-HOLLAND axles. ‘I am responsible for all customer contacts within the Netherlands. The great thing is that I not only supply products, but can guide customers from start to finish. Switching quickly and coming up with creative solutions makes the work challenging and valuable.’
The power of strong relationships
SAF-HOLLAND Benelux is about more than just doing business, Marty stresses. For him, lasting relationships with customers are key.
Marty's years of experience and extensive network play an important role in this. ‘Over the years, you get to know more and more people. Sometimes it's a matter of connecting the right people. I call one person, they refer me to another, and new opportunities continuously arise.’
Innovation in a changing sector
The transport sector is in a state of flux, and Marty also notices that the energy transition is a major topic of conversation. ‘Innovations such as electric axles are interesting, but also bring challenges. Take our electric drive axle, for example: it generates energy, but is heavier as a result. While we are known for our light axles. So it remains balancing between innovation and the core values SAF-HOLLAND stands for.’
Nevertheless, Marty sees a strong future for the company. ‘What sets us apart is that we don't just supply axles, but offer a complete package. Think valves, fifth wheels and support legs, all of high quality. Moreover, we put a strong focus on service, and that is appreciated by our customers.’
Special moments and a rich past
With almost 50 years of history in the Netherlands, SAF-HOLLAND Benelux has experienced many special moments. One of Marty’s fondest memories is the 45th anniversary celebration. ‘We had a party at the Rijksmuseum. Together with our customers, we had dinner next to the Night Watch. Those are moments you don't easily forget.’

What makes Marty most proud? ‘The products we supply and the innovations we continue to implement. But especially the service: that makes all the difference. Our customers regularly say: ‘You may be slightly more expensive, but the exceptional service is worth it.’’
